Scattering in 1D system
Scattering in 2D system

This animation shows distinct difference in scattering between 2D and 1D systems. While the initial kinetic energy is distributed in all particles for the 2D case, the initial energy is transfered from one particle to another for the 1D case. Elastic scattering is assumed for both cases. Similar but more peculiar dynamics is expected for quantum systems.
